STAFFORD HARRIERS CHARITY APPEALS

The Harriers are well known for their Charity donations throughout the year. We always have a dedicated run that we use as the Stafford Harriers Charity Run.

Over the years we run the Staffordshire Way the Four Counties Canal Ring and in recent years we have used the Balck Country Half Marathon as our main fund raiser.

This year the Birmingham Black Country Half Marathon takes place on in July starting at the British Waterways Canal Dock, Wolverhampton (immediately behind the railway station) and finishes at Brindley Place Birmingham. The race is chip-timed and takes place on a time-trial basis with groups of runners sent of at various times according to their ability.

We will give you details of the train times and prices once the May timetable is out.

Esther Batho - Harriers for Headway

As you are all probably aware by now, our dear friend and fellow Harrier, Esther Batho is currently undergoing intense rehabilitation following a recent, major operation to try and remove a brain tumor.

Esther who is an inspiration to us all is overcoming each and every challenge faced with grit and determination and is showing us every day how strong in body and mind she really is.

Following a recent visit to see Esther at The Haywood’s she asked myself, Shelley Burns, Anne Coghlan, Lindsey Foster and Rachel Davis if we could raise some money for the charity that have provided help and support to both her and Steve over the last few months: HEADWAY NORTH STAFFS.

With a request like that, how could we refuse, and hence HARRIERS FOR HEADWAY has been born. Our pledge to Esther is to raise as much money as we can for this great charity that is getting our friend and yours, back on her feet and in to her running trainers once again. From little acorns grow big trees and so our aim and vision is to make 2015 Esther’s charity year.

We appreciate that money is tight and that “sponsored runs” can be tedious and lets face it we are Harriers and running is what we do!……So over the next 12 months we will be organising and facilitating a number of fund raising events from football matches to fashion shows to name but a few, with all funds raised going to HEADWAY. The aim is to be able to present Esther and Steve with the final amount raised at the annual Harriers Christmas party 2015.

At this stage we would gratefully ask that you keep an eye out for the upcoming events and get involved!!!!! They will amount to lots of fun times ahead but all will be revealed in due course……

In view of our ongoing plans if anyone wants to do any one off events for HEADWAY, or have any idea's, please can they contact either myself or one of the other Headway committee members (as mentioned above) in order that all funds raised can be added to the HEADWAY account.

All HEADWAY charity events will be advertised on the front page of the website and have a link to the charity page.

FLYING FOX MARATHON DONATION

Hi to all Harriers,

Just a brief note to thank you for your generous donation of £100 for the charities associated with the Flying Fox Marathon.  We've already handed over a cheque for £750 to Katharine House - hopefully you'll see some pictures in the local press.  Your older members will know that we have good reason to thank the hospice for supporting Vernon in his final days.

We're handing over a cheque (£1000) to Gingerbread on Friday 29th August and then £250 to Dougie Mac at a later date.

It's hoped that the Marathon will be a bi-annual event.  Runners World reviews were very encouraging but it's a hell of an event to organise and stage.

Thanks again.

The Harriers latest charity donation.

As most of you are aware that the club has a long tradition of supporting local charities.  The latest was a donation of £500 to Ronald McDonald House in Birminham.

The House looks after families of children being treated at Birmingham Children’s Hospital - one of the top four specialist children’s hospitals in the UK. The Hospital sees over 240,000 patients each year from Birmingham, the West Midlands and beyond. The Hospital is a nationally designated specialist centre for epilepsy surgery and a trauma centre for the West Midlands, a national transplant centre, and a centre of excellence for complex heart conditions, the treatment of burns, cancer, liver and kidney disease. They also have a neonatal department and a paediatric intensive care unit.

 MEMBERS CHARITY APPEALS.

We know that Harriers themselves run for various charities not connected with the Harriers but always for good causes. So on this page as well as letting you know all about our Charity Run we will give Harriers an opportunity to tell you about Charities they are running for.

This will be only for Stafford Harriers members. If we put on every Charity appeal we receive the page would go on for ever.

So if any Harrier who wants to mention their Charity or make an appeal then let us know.
