colour runners

GENERAL DESCRIPTIONS
During Winter, ALL Harriers on Club training sessions are EXPECTED to wear white or reflective tops.

Monday
Rowley Park meeting at 6.00pm. If you can manage to run continuously for a distance, join a group for a leisurely 3 to 4 mile run. This is one of our 'feeder' group nights which is aimed at those just starting out on the road to fitness and those hoping to improve from a slow base. The aim is to show people that running can actually be fun and that you don't have to be an international class runner to belong to a club!
Pete Burns, Brian Langston and Nigel Addison coach this session. It's great for those wishing to take up the sport and wanting to find out what club running is all about.
New groups for those completely new to running, will begin on the first Monday’s in March, June and September.
The next brand new beginners group with Nigel Addison starts on Monday 1st March at 6.30pm. He will introduce you to jog/walk/jog/walk at Rowley Park and build your running up over the weeks.

Tuesday
Meeting at the MRI club, St Leonards Avenue, at 6.00pm for a 6.15pm departure. Runs vary between 6 and 10 miles depending on the time of year. This session is for the more experienced runner. Runs are well organised and a mustering system is used which keeps the group together while allowing people to run at their own pace. A back marker ensures that no runner is left on their own as safety is of paramount importance, especially for our female members.
There is also an alternative speedwork option for those wishing to not only improve their speed but overall fitness. These sessions vary from track to hillwork to bleep tests. Once a month we have a 'surprise surprise' session where everyone is invited to take part.
See the “Tues/Thur plans” page.

Wednesday
Speedwork session at Rowley Park track, meeting at 6.15pm. If you want to improve then this is the way to go. Coached by Chris Hollinshead.
BEGINNERS SPEED TRAINING SESSIONS
Nigel Addison is now coaching a less intense speed trainiing session every Wednesday from 6:30 on Rowley Park track and extra participants are welcome to join him. This is valuable training for all runners, not just track runners. It helps develop your heart strength and increases your ability to uptake oxygen for easier breathing and pumping into your muscles. It helps you cope with a faster pace at any distance, 100m to marathon. Give it a go - you know it makes sense!

Thursday
Very much the same as Tuesday but without the speedwork option. Meeting place and time is the same as Tuesday.
In the summer we venture onto Cannock Chase every Thursday for a pleasant change of scenery (there is also still a road run option from the MRI Club).
For Cannock Chase runs we leave in cars from ST. Leonards works, at 6-05 pm. prompt. Those wishing to make their own way to the starting point should be there by 6-20 pm. (approx). On all Cannock chase runs, we will be mustering back, every 7 minutes.
From late October the nights are too dark for most people to do a run on the Chase and most Harriers will meet as for Tuesday nights.
BUT, a small band of intrepid Harriers WILL run on the Chase with the aid of HEAD (OR HAND) TORCHES. Use the “Contact me” below to let me know if you are interested in those runs.

See the “Tues/Thur plans” page.

Friday
Similar to a Monday but we meet at the MRI club, St Leonards Avenue at 6.00pm in winter OR Stafford Castle car park during summer (May to August). Jane Bisiker and John Finney are the coaches and they take the 'feeder' group out for a 3 to 4 mile run at a leisurely pace. This has gained in popularity over the last twelve months and is a great way to start the weekend.
Training returns to MRI club, St Leonards Avenue at 6.00pm from 2 October 2009, for the winter period.

Saturday
In the winter the club takes part in various cross country leagues and from October to March the men and women members can, if they wish, represent the club in these events. Runners of all abilities can take part and the teams are not limited to a specific number of runners so anyone can run if they wish. All races are well organised and are free to club members. We take part in the Birmingham and North Staffs cross country leagues as well as the Staffs, Midlands and National championships.

Sunday
Three groups meet seperately:

One group meet at Marquis Drive, Cannock Chase, at 9.00am. The group are out for around 90 minutes and use this run to train for half and full marathons. It's a great way to get your weekly long run in but in the company of others. The Chase provides a wonderful backdrop for this popular run and whatever the weather the Chase takes some beating.
A second group meet at 9:00am just off the Brocton Road from Milford Common - second left turn after that for Sister Dora's (opposite the brown fencing). This group also run on the Chase, but the distances tend to be a little longer and the speed a little faster (but not too fast).

A third group start at 9:00am from Castlefields or Burton Manor, for runs on the old railway line or the road with Mike Jones.
Tuesday and Thursday runs are planned in advance - see the next page down on the sidebar to the left (Tues/Thur plans).
