South Staffs Athletics Network

Stafford Harriers are a founding member of the South Staffordshire Athletics Network. This is a group of clubs working together to help each other in various ways. This page will be linked to the Networks Website so we will be able to keep up with all the courses and workshops that will be available to club members. Watch this space.

See the South Staffs Network Website here

We will be following up on the Club Development Evening, thank you for all for

coming.

In the meantime I will keep sending info by email!!!!

Below are 2 initiatives that will help us gain more volunteers in clubs

(hopefully!)

1.Sport Makers

What Is It?

This project will use the inspirational of London 2012 to recruit, train and

deploy 40,000 new sports volunteers aged 16 years and over to make sport happen

across the country.

The Sport Makers programme will bring the Olympic and Paralympic values to life

in every community and is an important part of the London 2012 legacy. Every

Sport Maker will be supported locally by their county sports partnership to find

a suitable volunteering placement and attend the inspiring introductory Sport

Makers workshop.

In Staffordshire & Stoke-on-Trent we are looking to recruit 800 new volunteers

into sport by providing a range of different placements. We are working closely

with Volunteer Centres, Universities, Colleges, NGBs and Community Clubs to

identify opportunities to deploy Sport Makers in the areas/sports where the need

is greatest.

What Does It Involve?

Becoming a Sport Maker would involve attending a workshop and taking part in at

least 10 hours of volunteering in sport locally.

To register as a provider:.<http://www.sportmakers.co.uk/become-a-provider>.

Once registered you will be able to promote any opportunities that are relevant

to Sport Maker volunteers. This could be events which you need additional

support for, training opportunities, working in a local club, supporting the

delivery of one of your initiatives or even helping to organise and promote new

activity. As long as it relates to adult (16+) participation in some way it is

up to you what you put on there. The website will also give all registered

opportunity providers the facility to search for volunteers. Registration will

only take you a few minutes.

2. Are you Ready?

England Athletics campaign.   There is loads and loads of resources - including

a job description for Volunteer Coordinator!

The 2012 Olympic and Paralympics Games present our sport with its biggest

opportunity for a generation. The games will see sport thrust into the spotlight

in a way that hasn't been seen before. With this in mind England Athletics are

asking 'Are we ready?' and more importantly we are asking you, 'Are you ready?'

England Athletics Volunteer Initiative is based around helping clubs and

networks to Recruit, Retain and Reward volunteers thus obtain Results for both

clubs and volunteers.  Volunteering is vital to the survival of Athletics and

the growth and improved structure of clubs.  As part of the initiative England

Athletics have launched the 'Are you ready?' campaign to drive the Recruit

strand of the volunteer initiative aiming to bring new volunteers to the sport.
