Junior Section Report for April 2019

Wednesday, 3rd April

Castlefields Carpark, 5k Time Trials

Continuing on from previous years, this was the first of several planned time trial events for the Juniors over the summer months, in which we had 11 run on this occasion, and who also ran with the seniors along the disused railway track. The event is intended to monitor the Junior’s progress, and chart how they do, over time, and offer support and coaching accordingly.

There was just one Junior running in this event, Ben Cook, this being the first Handicap race of the year. After starting with a somewhat hefty handicap, Ben finished in very respectable 4th place, in a time of 27:00. Well done Ben!

Friday, 12th April

Jack Peaker FordHouses 5K

Ben Deakin ran this flat and fast course along with his Mum and Dad, and coming in first for the Deakins, finishing in 59th position, in a respectable time of 22:24. Well done Ben!

Sunday, 14th April

Newcastle 10K

Jake Oliver was the only Junior running in the event this year, and was the 4th Harrier home, completing the race in a time of 41:18, and finishing in 56th position, some 97 places in front of his dad! There were 457 finishers. Well done Jake!

Park Runs

As in previous months a good number of Juniors have been competing in the Cannock Chase and Isobel Trail Park runs each Saturday morning, so well done all, and keep up the great work!

Junior Participation in non-Harrier events

The Junior coaches are aware of some Juniors running in events outside of the Harriers, such as the Park Runs or races organised by schools, and feel this should be recognised in some way. Going forward the coaches will be asking the Juniors to let them know of any such events they have participated in which will be logged over time and recognised accordingly.

Harriers 5K Time TRIAL

Wednesday 3rd April 2019

First of 4 events across the year. It is open to all Harriers, free to attend. This is a great way to see your progress across last year and now.

Thanks to those who helped out with the timing, recording of results and marshalling.

Dirty Dozen 12 Trail Run, Cannock Chase

Harry Beckett ran with his Mum and Dad, in this event finishing in a commendable 48th position, and in a time of 1:08:33. By all accounts, this was not an easy race, with a muddy trench thrown in for good measure. A big well done to Harry for completing this difficult race!
