1943 – 19th May 2022
It is with great sadness that Stafford Harriers has to announce the death of Club President and Mr Harrier, Mick Jones.
He joined the club in May 1988 and has had a big part in making the club what it is today. I can’t think of anyone that has contributed more of his own time (and his wife’s) and personality to the club.
He was our Chairman for many years, author/ publisher of the quarterly journal (what we had before the internet to give session info, race reports and PB table), and the first manager of the Handicap race from July 1994 to Dec 2012, he also took the Thursday night runs for many years, took other if not all the groups at some time.
Outside of the Harriers he managed (took the entries and did the results) the Limp Wrist race on New Year’s Day for many years. He also had a close association with North Staffs Road Runners Association (NSRRA) races, both taking part in their races and helping maintain their results tables.

His own running achievements must include running 100 marathon races – his 100th was the London 2011 Marathon. He took part in all the handicap races from July 1994 to April 2013 a total of 72 races.
His PB table shows that he was a very accomplished runner.

It was a sad day when he had to give up running – but it didn’t stop him from helping out at the Chase Park run most weeks as a tail runner/walker.
The Club sends our sincere condolences to Carol and the family at this very sad time.
